Four Reasons A Treadmill Is Worth The Money

Four Reasons A Treadmill Is Worth The MoneyJune 16, 2013 11:22Health Host

Choosing exercise equipment can be hard. There are so many different options now that it can be difficult to know which ones will deliver the finest results. We’re a fan of keeping it simple, and that means that one of the best pieces of fitness equipment you can buy is a treadmill. Treadmills are time tested, popular and effective and they work. Here are four reasons to include a treadmill in your home fitness room.

1. Great workout.

This should really be the number one priority for any piece of exercise equipment. Treadmills deliver one of the best workouts possible because they make it easy to jog or run. Jogging burns calories rapidly, giving you a full-body aerobic workout that elevates heart rate quickly and will have you sweating in no time. While running is a good workout anywhere, a treadmill makes it easy to step on anytime. Running takes more energy than almost any other workout and you can achieve great results in little time.

2. Lower impact.

Some people are wary of jogging or running because it can be a high impact workout, specifically putting strain on the knees, ankles and arches. This isn’t only a matter of proper form and good sneakers; if you have past injuries, arthritis or are getting older it’s important to be careful with running. But the best treadmills offer a soft, impact absorbing surface that can make a good run gentler and far more accessible. That same surface adds a little bit of bounce to your step and can help you improve your form. It’s a much smarter choice than running on typical trails, tracks or gym floors.

3. Pacing.

One of the biggest mistakes most people make when running is not paying attention to pace. It’s easy to start off fast out of the gate and wear yourself down quickly, and it’s just as easy to jog slower then you need to and end up burning fewer calories than you could. A treadmill is not just a piece of exercise equipment; it’s effectively a trainer that can help you hit just the right pace and improve your overall performance and capability. Treadmills control the pace for you, allowing you to keep a consistent speed or vary as desired and challenge your limit. Many runners find that after a month on a treadmill they surpass all their records at the track.

4. Year round.

Running is one of the most natural and fun workouts possible. It’s what all of us did during playtime as kids. It is a great choice to keep yourself motivated, interested and dedicated to your exercise plan. But weather can easily ruin a day of jogging and thus throw off your entire regimen. Even if you plan to jog outside on clear, comfortable days, having the treadmill as your fallback plan prevents a hot, cold or rainy day from becoming a day off. It bolsters willpower.

Of course, treadmills aren’t the only options out there, and everyone has a favorite of their own. What’s your preferred fitness equipment?
