The number of people becoming aware about the various advantages of health insurance and opting for it is steadily increasing around the world. Residents of USA would be familiar with the term Medigap, an extra health insurance that can be bought from a private company to pay for health care costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as co-payments, deductibles, and health care when travelling to international destinations outside of USA. Long-term care like fees of staying in a nursing facility, dental care, vision care, hearing aids, eyeglasses, private-duty nursing and costs of prescription drugs are not covered by Medigap policies. Oregon Medigap plans are different from other states’ plans as they are federally-standardized which means that all companies in the state have to offer exactly the same coverage plans.
There are 10 plans which can be offered and all companies do not have to offer all the plans. Most of them provide about 3 to 5 of these plans.
Various Oregon Medigap plans
Among the 10 Medigap plans, 3 of the most important and commonest ones that are more comprehensive than others are Medicare-supplement plan f comparison, Plan G, and Plan N. These three plans provide coverage for the “gaps” in Medicare. Medicare-supplement plan f comparison is the most opted for plan as it covers the cost for everything that Medicare doesn’t cover at the doctor and hospital thus saving a lot of the user’s money. Plan G pays for everything that Medicare doesn’t except the Medicare Part B deductible which is around $140 per year and is a level below ‘F’. For those who are in a better state of health, Plan N is a good option to go for as it provides for a lower-cost plan. The premiums are comparatively lower and it includes a doctor’s office co-pay costing $20 and a $50 emergency room co-pay.
All of the Medigap plans offered by companies in Oregon State have common features such as:
- People are not required to file the claims by themselves or be involved in any way in the claim-filing process. In order to guarantee quick and efficient payment to the providers, all the companies pay claims through the Medicare “crossover” system so that users do not have to be concerned much about it.
- Users do not need to stay within any doctor or hospital networks. They will not be sent a “provider directory” to browse as Medigap plans do not provide for any. People are free to go to any doctor or hospital, anywhere in the USA, that accepts Medicare.
How to get an Oregon Medigap Plan
If prospective seekers of the Oregon Medicare Supplement plan are in a special enrollment period, it becomes easier to obtain it. It can be any sort of enrollment such as an open enrollment (turning 65 or signing up for Medicare Part B) or a guaranteed issue (losing employer coverage, losing Advantage plan coverage, moving to a new state, etc.). Prior to signing up for a plan, people merely have to compare their options, such as rates and company ratings and then select the one most suited to them.
