Regardless of how tough the economic times are, there are simply some things that a family cannot live without. Simple hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste are a prime example! There are many other things that are classed as ‘health and beauty‘ products that we need to spend money on, but don’t want to be spending as much as we may have done several years ago. This could be cosmetics and make up, beard trimmers and shavers, perfume and other luxury items. However, there are ways of saving money on the health and beauty budget, without having to make any big sacrifices…
Shop Around For The Best Deals
Do you use the same shop for all of your health and beauty products? It may be the local supermarket, a chemist, or a big brand chain store. If so, then you could be missing out on some serious deals that could save you a whole ton of money. Although you may not think there will be big price differences between the same products, there can actually be some great deals and offers you’re missing out on.
Use voucher websites, price comparison sites and money saving sites to find out which company is offering the best deals. Some stores have 1p sales throughout the year, which is a great time to stock up on things such as hairbrushes and combs, razors, fake tan and make up products. These sales come and go very quickly though, so make sure you keep up with the latest news on your favourite health and beauty outlets.
Repair And Recycle
Back in World War 2 there was one phrase, which would shape a generation for years to come; Make Do and Mend. Although times are not exactly that hard any more, it doesn’t mean that we can’t still use that handy bit of advice. Instead of throwing out our health or beauty products when they look as though they’re broken, why not repair them instead?
A prime example is with the electric shaver, of which you’re bound to have at least one in the house. When it starts making odd whirring noises and not trimming, or cutting, as well as it used to, you may be inclined to through it out. However, it’s simply because the foil and cutter unit needs replacing, not that you need a brand new one. You can find shaver spares online, or at some of the bigger health and beauty stores. It takes a few minutes to replace these parts and can save you spending money on a brand new shaver.
Top Tips For Preserving Cosmetics
Cosmetics are one of those ‘luxuries’ that men and women love to have in their home, but are worried that it’s not going to fit within their budget. There are ways of preserving the cosmetics you have, to get the most out of them, and cut down on that cosmetics budget:
- Mascara – This beauty product can dry out really quickly, especially if left open by accident. To get it back to its former glory simply use a couple drops of olive oil in the pot and give it a gentle stir.
- Moisturiser – This is one cosmetic that is seen as vital, but can run out very quickly. When you get down to the last few drops add some tea tree oil in there. It will ensure your moisturiser lasts longer and is great for your skin too.
- Vaseline – Or any other petroleum jelly product in fact, will save you a fortune on your health and beauty budget. It can be used as make up remover, lip gloss and balm, moisturiser (especially under the eye) and hand cream.
Making things last is almost as important as getting them for the right price in the first place. Think about saving what you have instead of getting what you want for less and you will soon have money for a few extras at the end of each month.
