Being prepared means having all the necessary tools around in case of an emergency. Disasters and accidents happen, and the best way to handle such situations is to be prepared.
A well-designed first-aid kit
The first thing that you really need to have around the house is a first-aid kit. There are numerous brands that sell this type of product; you just need to find one that is adaptable to almost any situation.
First of all, you need to have bandages, adhesive tape and duct tape. These are the essential tools that you can use in case of any external injury as immobilization of the wound is crucial. This is advice offered by doctors and specialists from all around the world. It’s something that anybody around the house needs to know in case of any emergency: try to immobilize the person as much as possible, because you cannot know what areas have been affected, and changing one’s position can actually do more damage than good.
Pills
When it comes to the pills that you need to have around, try to focus on aspirin, aloe Vera gel and activated charcoal (this is for poison). Additionally, you need to have a syringe, medicine cup or spoon in order to provide proper administration. Also include some mild sedatives in case the injured person panics.
Be equipped for anything!
A proper first-aid kit is not designed only for medical issues. It can serve other purposes, as well, depending on the situation. For example, you can have a mini-flashlight and a pair of extra batteries in case you run out of light. Also, a small knife can be helpful in some situations if you are far away from the kitchen or find yourself stranded somewhere far away from any cutting implements.
Additionally, you should have the number of a doctor ready in your first-aid kit as it is important to contact a specialist in case of an emergency. Of course, 911 is the best solution there is, but until the ambulance comes, you need to be ready for anything, and that’s where the advice of an expert can come in handy.
A car’s first-aid kit should have…
When talking about a car’s first-aid kit or even one for a boat, there is a single item that should never be left out: a cellular phone. Accidents may happen in areas where there are no possible means of communication, and you need to be able to signal your problem in order to be helped.
Always check your kit for a full battery whenever you decide to go on the road, and pack an extra one, just in case. A great piece of advice here is not to choose a Smartphone as your emergency phone. You need a phone that has a strong, long-life battery, a phone that has only one purpose: to save your life.
Don’t forget about the manual!
One last detail that you should take into consideration is a first-aid kit manual. There are certain guidelines and procedures that you should know in case of an emergency and a manual can guide you throughout the entire process.
Additionally, you should ask your doctor if there are certain pills that you should have in your first-aid kit. This goes for people who are diabetic or who suffer from allergies and need to take some special medication during the day. In case of an emergency, those pills can actually save your life and help you survive!
It’s not easy to build up a first-aid kit, but when it comes to preparation, you need to be the master! Pay attention to the details as those details can actually save your life. Many people talk about their emergency experiences, and the first-aid kit played an important role.
