Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been around for thousands of years, and has stood the test of time against modern medicine. It has been a contribution to the health and well-being of Chinese people for many years, and is now available to everyone. Treatment with Chinese Medicine is a Holistic one.
Holistic is the belief that everything is connected, for example the body is connected with the mind. The belief of the medicine is that it helps treat the root cause of the problem rather than just the symptoms, so as to focus on the person as a whole. Chinese Doctors believe that everything in your body is linked, and they can tell simply by observation of your body if there is something going on underneath. There are many ways you can get a diagnosis; even without the use of medical equipment.
Tongue Diagnosis is one of the most popular methods of diagnosis regarding Chinese Medicine. It is believed that part of the tongue are linked to certain parts of your body. For example the back third of the tongue is related to the bladder, kidneys and small and large intestines. If this part of the tongue looked unhealthy, then there would generally be a problem with one of the organs that it is connected with.
Treatment
Treatment may include diet changes, changing sleep patterns, using herbal remedies, acupuncture, more exercise, massage etc. Acupuncture has become a very popular way of treating many different medical disorders. It can improve things like colds, asthma, ulcers, diabetes, constipation, high blood pressure, deafness, ringing in the ears, hay fever, arthritis, headache, stroke, polio, sprains and more. This treatment involves the use of small, thin needles. The needles are inserted through acupuncture points; these are depressions in the skin that are called men or gates. Acupuncture stimulates these points with pressure that relives obstructions in the flow of energy, therefore enabling the body to heal. It works by stimulating the central nervous system to release chemicals. These chemicals are called neurotransmitters and hormones; they dull pain, boost the immune system and regulate body functions. The treatment has little pain and has proven to have little or no side effects – unlike other conventional drugs.
Does Chinese Medicine really work?
There are many treatment processes when it comes to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Although trusted, many believe that using other types of medicine along with TCM is more effective, which makes sense. In a way, with the advances of conventional medicines we can’t afford not to use them when we are unwell. On a whole Chinese medicine works by treating the root cause of a problem through various things like changing your lifestyle or using herbal remedies. These are used over a period of time so may take time to work. Many medicines treat symptoms, but with TCM’s it treats the root cause, you could say with less invasive treatments. If Chinese medicine didn’t work, it would be forgotten about years and years ago, but the fact that it is still used now proves that it is effective.
