Laser hair removal is one of the most sought-after cosmetic procedures that are easy to do, quite effective and does not need a lot of recovery time. Body hair is pretty natural for many people. However, diet, lifestyle, certain activities and medications can increase hair growth that is not required. Amid that, even though for men, beard and moustache are common, a stray hair strand above or below the hairline becomes a sore sight. While trimming, shaving and waxing are good options that can be followed at home, hair removal service at a professional centre is better and the results stay for longer.
Trimming and shaving extra hair is the speediest process that can be done at home. But the fix to remove hair via these methods needs to be done regularly, based on how fast someone’s hair growth rate is. For most people that need a relatively hair-free skin, trimming and shaving needs to be done every once or twice a week. The downside to trimming and shaving is that the skin can get irritated due to regular chafing and abrasion. Additionally, hair mostly grows back thicker and stronger. There’s also an option to use epilators. These devices pull hair from the roots and result in a longer hair-free period. However, you need to have a really high pain tolerance to go through with this. Plus, there’s the same problem of hair growing back thicker and stronger, as well as the direction of hair growth is weirded out later.
Waxing can be done at home and at salons. Though at salons you will have better results where professionals will be doing the entire process. Considering the pain index, it is rather painful, but people can get used to it over a period of time. The stinging pain associated with epilators is often not encountered here. The process works the same, pulling the hair from the roots. Hair that grows back is slightly thicker, but the direction of growth isn’t affected. Another option available is sugaring which is mostly done at salons, but there are DIY kits available for people who want to do it at home. The pain is lesser than waxing, but hair removal is not holistic.
Compared to all the above options, laser hair removal is done by firing a beam of concentrated light at the area that needs to be rid of hair. The lighter the skin colour, the better the process works. Hair is made of keratin and its colour comes from the amount of melanin pigment in the hair. This hair removal process works on the principle that darker pigments absorb heat better than lighter pigments. The heat from the laser is absorbed by the hair strand and this heats the hair root and surrounding cells, immediately destroying them. It may take a couple of sessions, but the treated area will not grow back hair. Your cosmetologist might advise you to avoid hair products, sunscreen or any other lotions for a week preceding the procedure. The hair length will be trimmed down to a proper length and thereafter the process can start. The skin might be a bit reddened, but that goes away soon enough. However, you should avoid using harsh skin products immediately after the procedure.
