According to recent reports, a third of British citizens who opt to have cosmetic surgery now choose to do so abroad. This is often with a view to saving money, as nations in Eastern Europe tend to offer lower-cost treatments and procedures than those available in the Western world. While there may be some dissenting voices which suggest that more than half of cosmetic surgery tourists return home unhappy with the result of their treatment, however, the fact remains that there are numerous skilled practitioners who have chosen to ply their trade in countries such as Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Travelling Abroad for Cosmetic Surgery: 3 Tips for a Successful Treatment
In fact, the main issue lies with tourists solely prioritising bottom line cost rather than seeking out an affordable surgeon who is fully qualified and experienced in his field. Take practitioners such as the Europe Surgery, for example, which is based in Poland but owned by a British registered GMC surgeon who simply has a passion for delivering affordable and value for money treatments. With this in mind, it is possible to source experienced and reputable cosmetic surgeons abroad, so long as you are committed to finding the best possible providers. Consider the following: –
- Check for Industry Qualifications and Accreditation: During your initial consultation, it is important that you do not get too carried away by discussing the treatment that you require. This is also the ideal opportunity to quiz your surgeon on the experience, philosophy and credentials, which is vital if you are to guarantee their professional integrity. Each practitioner should be willing to share proof of their qualifications and industry accreditations when prompted, and those who don’t generally do not have them or lack the necessary qualifications to deliver the treatments that they advertise.
- Ask to See a Portfolio of Work: On an additional note, it is also worth noting your surgeon’s experience and proficiency with regards to the treatment that you require. There are different grades of complexity in relation to each cosmetic procedure, from relatively simple ones such as face lifts to more complicated treatments like breast augmentation or reconstruction. Be sure to probe your surgeon’s knowledge on the subject in hand, and ask to see a portfolio of work that they have completed previously. You should also do an independent search of your surgeon online, so that you can appraise patient reviews and check to see if they have a history of complaints or malpractice claims.
- Balance Cost Cutting with Value for Money: While the core appeal of cosmetic surgery tourism is its affordable nature, this should not be your only concern as a consumer. It is also important to balance this alongside the concept of value for money, however, as there is little point in making short-term savings if you are ultimately required to pay more in order to correct a poor standard of treatment. With this in mind, try to balance the information that you have garnered alongside the cost of the individual treatment that you are looking to invest in, as this will enable you to make an effective and informed decision.

Good article. I would like to add few more advices.
1. You need to check hotels nearby if you want to stay or need to stay longer.
2. Ask for all instructions for the surgery – you need to know what to pack.
3. Ask if you will have a chance to speak with doctor face to face before surgery.
4. Ask for exact complications which can occure.
I was at Forme clinic for liposuction about a year ago so I do rememeber how I panicked right before my travel to Prague. Fortunately I had great client coordinator so she explained me everything. Surgery went well and healing was awfull but now I’m completely healed and happy that I made this trip.
