January
There is no better way to begin the annual toast to winter by ushering in the new year by witnessing a show by the wizard of the electronic music world namely, Douglas Appling or more famously known as the Emancipator. The date is Ist January and location Belly Up. The Gay Ski week will be held from January 13 to 20 and Β is a popular travel event for those who enjoy outdoor activities and music.Then from 24th to 27th January begin the Winter X Games, where some of the best participants from the world over showcase their skill on ski, snowboard and snowmobile over four action filled days. The contest is held at Buttermilk and other attractions include shows by acclaimed musical artists and village festivals.
February
Sunday, February 17th features the 7th annual Ski for the Pass tour and race at the Independence pass five miles to the east of Aspen. Last year, the event was attended by more than 60 skiers. The city decks itself up for this program and is a big draw puller for both individuals and families.20th February to 23rd February will feature the Aspen Laugh festival at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, presenting a unique four day comedy experience. Ski the day and laugh the night as Aspen presents some of the most brilliant voices in stand up and comedy shows.
March
The Apres Ski Cocktail Classic celebration is scheduled from 14th to 17th April in Aspen, Colorado at the The Little Nell. The event features snow parties, mountain events, speeches by leading mixologists on the artisanal craft of making cocktails and mixing spirits. The highlight of this mega show is the The Great Apres Ski Pub Crawl.
April
The Oscar related premier short film festival of the world will be held at the Wheeler Opera House from 2nd to 7th April 2019. This short fest will host popular filmmakers from around the world and impart the finer arts of film making to the audience. Many of the selected films screened here have gone on to get Oscar nominations and even bag a few coveted awards.
June
From June 19 to 21(dates may change) the annual Food and Wine Classic is held in Aspen. This festival happens to be a major epicurean event in the town’s calendar. Culinary artists portray their passion for fine food, wine and entertainment by displaying an astonishing 300 vintage wines from around the world.The three exciting days are full of interaction with leading chefs and notable wine connoisseurs, complete with cooking demos and wine tastings.
July
The fourth of July, or Independence Day is celebrated in Aspen by the 20,000 small town population very avidly. On this day locals and visitors alike congregate to honour the birthday of the nation in the real style of the Americans. The day is highlighted by parades, shows, carnivals, live music concerts and culminates in a spectacular display of fireworks.
The 16th Aspen Arts festival also takes place from July 21 to 22. This event offers a unique opportunity to come up close with some phenomenal paintings, sculptures and exclusive jewellery.
Autumn
This is probably one of the best time to be in Aspen. For outdoor enthusiasts, the mountain biking season is at the peak in September and October. Autumn is also ideal time to visit and photograph the picturesque twin Maroon Bells peaks of North America. Weekly through October, the Aspen Saturday market draws visitors to buy local products and relish cuisine at the food court.
Winter Events
One of the most amazing things about Aspen is it that it has everything for everyone. The Belly Up Aspen, though a year round event, gears up for special display of musical talent during winter holidays. The Aspen Mountain and Snowmass skiing area open their days in late November, while the Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands open it move early December. Downtown Aspen comes alive with a range of free holiday activities and completions. The athletes of the ski club participate in slalom races along the Little Nell run of Aspen mountain.Visitors are encouraged to cheer the competitors at this challenging sport and later on attend some of the trendiest ski parties of the year.
Aspen, at one time, was a celebrity destination, but all this has changed now. Aspen is now more renowned for world related events which attract visitors from every corner of the planet.
