When you aim to get a position in a specific company, your potential employers may require that you pass a drug test first before they hire you. This is a requirement in many companies, and the most common assessment that you will undergo is called urine drug testing or UDT. You can read more about urine drug tests here.
Many laboratories screen the urine samples for possible drug presence. Many companies choose this method because the results are fast and accurate. Other employers use this because they are cheaper compared to different types of testing.
If you find yourself subjected to UDT, here are some of the things that you may want to know about it.
- The Testing is Done for a Variety of Reasons
The testing will involve checking the subject and determining if a person has used an illegal substance within a time frame. Some of the reasons why drug inspections are being conducted include college entrances, professional athlete requirements, and random checks conducted in many companies.ย
Jobs that often involve random drug testing include airlines, transportation, medical sectors, railways, and more. Other employees in corporate settings may undergo assessment once in a while to ensure that they have a sound mind and body.ย
Others found out to be heavy drug users may undergo rehabilitation. Some companies may expel their employees from their position. In extreme cases, people found out to be positive on illegal drugs may face charges and go to jail.
- The Process is Legal
The Supreme Court in the US deemed testing as legal. It does not infringe on the privacy of a person. Instead, this is necessary to protect the company’s reputation, the worker’s co-employees, and the clients who do business with the corporation. The state laws are similar to that of federal legislation that maintains that any testing conducted for substances is legal, and it goes with the fairness policy in the workplace. However, in some states, the consequences for positive results can vary. Know that an employee has the right to refuse the assessment, but this can lead to the denial of unemployment subsidies or the loss of a job. In other states, they have laws that specify whether a company has the right to refuse someone who has been found out to be positive with cocaine.
- Multiple Substances are Being Checked
Many employees’ most commonly used drugs include ecstasy, heroin, cannabis, cocaine, and amphetamines. The urine samples results are 99% reliable, and this can be known in the space of 5 minutes.ย
Different concentration thresholds must be met to consider a subject to be positive. For substances that contain THC, the concentration should reach 50ng/ml. If the samples don’t contact this threshold, then the participant has passed the test. The concentration should be about 500ng/ml for ecstasy, and cocaine should have 300 ng/ml.ย
Note that the numbers can vary, and other laboratories may have different standards. For sure, for you to pass the test, you should be free from marijuana, opiates methadone, alcohol, PCP, and amphetamines.ย
If you suspect that you have a small chance of passing the test, you can use detox drinks to flush your system’s drugs. You can visit The Drug Test Detox or similar sites to know more information on drinks to help you urinate more. Other tools can help you pass the evaluation easily, such as fake urine and more so you might want to consider those as a last resort.
- There are Chances of False Positives
Some supplements and medications can result in false positives. This is why it is always a good idea to tell the laboratory personnel if you are taking other pills and remedies to alter the results. If you didn’t have enough time to detoxify your body, the best thing that you can do is to tell the examiners that you were taking over-the-counter supplements.
Some of the examiners will give you another schedule for drug assessment. You can take this opportunity to get rid of the toxins in your body through exercise, hydration, and a healthy diet. Some fail even after they try to exercise or stop using substances because there’s not enough time. For those who failed, this provides them a chance to seek help for rehabilitation and treatment to change their lives for the better.
