The feeling of uneasiness with an urge to vomit that is felt sometimes when in a moving car or in an airplane is called nausea. Nausea is also one of the symptoms of gastroenteritis. Having soda-based drinks will also relieve the uneasiness. One also needs to avoid spicy and oily food. Caffeine, alcohol consumption should also be considerably reduced. Meal portions should be reduced. Having smaller meals rich in fiber like apples, bananas, brown rice, and so on are known to help do away with nausea caused by indigestion. If possible avoid solid foods till you do not feel nauseous anymore. Have tea, sodas and juices instead.
Some people prefer cleansing their stomach completely, that is, vomiting if they feel like it instead of suppressing it. According them this makes one feel lighter and less uneasy. Those who swear by aromatherapy go for grape fruit essential oil. Dabbing your handkerchief or paper napkin in this oil and sniffing on it may make the feeling disappear.
The simplest way to combat the problem is to not panic and to start breathing deeply in order to relax. On the other hand, a few say that keeping yourself busy will take your mind off the nauseous feeling. A cold compress on the forehead can also be soothing. Acupressure experts say that applying pressure on the wrists with the thumb can make a difference.
A bit unconventional, yet some believe that charcoal tablets work. Similarly mixing baking soda in water and having the mixture has helped others.
A powder consisting of ground cumin seeds is supposedly beneficial when it comes to treating nausea. You may also place a few cloves in your mouth. Some have root beer and some have wheat germ water or rice water to cure the uneasiness. What needs to be avoided is milk and milk products and you must let your meal digest before hitting the bed.
Another simple concoction to prepare is adding honey to apple cider vinegar and mixing this with cold water. Having this before going to bed at night has helped many a pregnant woman.
Resting in a dark room can be of use. Similarly avoiding nauseating situations and places can also help – A claustrophobic place, smelly places, dingy rooms and noisy areas are big No-No’s for nauseous persons.
Lastly, nausea is most often treated quite easily, especially if the cause of the nausea is a minor one. Yet despite these remedies if the nauseous symptom still persists, it is advisable to consult a physician to establish the exact cause of the problem and to determine the appropriate cure.
