Apart from being annoying and embarrassing, unsightly acne can be a frequent anxiety cause. While you may feel that there’s nothing much you can do to prevent breakouts, the truth is, there is. Don’t even start thinking that it’s about consulting a skin doctor. Not even close. Natural remedies are much more effective and a lot cheaper than prescription and over-the-counter acne treatments. Most often, all you need is proper facial care and a well-balanced diet. Below are some steps that you can do easily to help reduce acne breakout. Prepare to be surprised in about a month or even less.
• Wash your face with a gentle acne soap twice daily. You need to use a sulfur-based soap for oily skin twice a day – when you get up from bed in the morning and before you go to bed at night. Be very gentle as you wash your skin and do not use any rough cloth to scrub your face. Do not overwash your face as this can actually trigger the production of more sebum in the oil glands that can exacerbate acne.
• Stop wearing makeup as they leave residues on your face that can clog pores which cause more blackheads and pimples to break out. If you must use makeup, make sure to wipe it off afterwards.
• If you have long hair, pull it back and tie it to keep it away from your face. Hair can carry oil and dust particles that can enter your pores and cause a breakout later. Make sure to have your hair washed everyday especially if you’ve been outside all day.
• Resist the urge to rub, scratch or squeeze your pimples and blackheads no matter how tempting it may be. Contact with the affected area can stimulate the glands to produce excess oil. What’s more, squeezing can rupture tissues under the skin leading to infection or oil blockage, which causes more pimples.
• Change your pillow cases twice a week as they absorb the excess oil and dirt from your skin. The dirt and oil can be transferred back to your face when you lie on your pillows every night and cause more acne to develop.
• Nourish your skin and body by taking natural food supplements and multivitamins. Acne thrives in an unhealthy body so it only makes sense to keep your skin healthy. If your body is malnourished, it will lose its capability to fight off infection. Excess oil, clogged pores and blackheads will soon follow.
• Eat a lot of yellow and orange foods that are rich in beta-carotene or vitamin A. This nutrient promotes healthy skin, inhibits sebum production and significantly lessens acne breakout. Vitamin A is a potent antioxidant that fights free radicals and eliminates toxins in the body. Its absence will promote the development of acne.
• While chromium is more identified with losing weight, it is known as well for its infection-fighting properties. Adding chromium to your diet can help dry up pimples and blackheads quickly and reduce the incidence of breakouts.
• Zinc’s bacterial-fighting capability makes it a required nutrient in the prevention of acne breakouts.
• A honey mask applied to your face twice a week can actually prevent the growth of bacteria and help clear up minor blemishes.
These natural acne remedies can prevent bacterial infections and clogged pores to minimize the risk of breakouts. These remedies are much safer than using traditional medications with potentially harmful ingredients, and they cost a lot less than commercially sold acne treatments.
