You’ve probably heard a lot about superfoods. Society has made them seem like miracles foods that will help you live forever. While they don’t have that power, they do come with a lot of benefits that can improve your health and help you avoid serious medical conditions.
What Are Superfoods?
Superfoods are special because they have a lot of nutrients and vitamins in them. They can also be rich in antioxidants, good fat, protein, and fiber.
They are missing all of the yucky stuff that many people get in their diet when they don’t watch what they eat such as:
- Sugar
- Synthetic fats
- Additives
Superfoods are whole foods, which means they are not processed. It’s as if you went into a field and picked your food. They are in their most natural state.
Superfood Combinations – Why It Matters How You Eat Them
While eating superfoods alone can be beneficial to your health, you increase the benefits you gain from them by combining certain ones. Your body often uses a combination of nutrients and vitamins to help your organs run efficiently. When there is a deficiency of some of them, they simply do not act as well as they could. That’s why it’s a good idea to learn what you should combine to achieve maximum efficiency.
#1: Olive Oil and Tomatoes
Be sure to eat tomatoes with olive oil. When you eat tomatoes with olive oil, you bring out more of the lycopene – an antioxidant. This can help you ward off diseases and illnesses.
#2: Collard Greens and Salmon
This can be your whole meal and it packs quite a punch as far as nutrition goes. You’ll get vitamin D, vitamin K, phytonutrients, and Omega 3 fats. Did you know they all work together to strengthen your bones? Without vitamin D and vitamin K, calcium isn’t able to absorb into your bones. Having both of those vitamins along with the fatty omega 3, calcium can do its job well. Drink some milk with this meal and you’ll be well on your way to good bone health.
#3: Tomatoes and Broccoli
Both tomatoes and broccoli have cancer fighting properties. That’s why it’s a good idea to pair them together to really give you a fighting chance against the disease.
#4: Black Pepper and Green Tea
Probably not the best combination, but it can do a lot for your body. The green tea can boost your metabolism, while the black pepper blocks the formation of new fat cells. Black pepper has been shown to burn more calories in resting state. If you’re trying to maintain or lose weight, it’s worth a try. Maybe you can find a way to put the black pepper on a cracker and eat it with a cup of green tea.
#5: Apples with Dark Chocolate
Chocolate lovers will love this – dark chocolate and apples lower your heart disease risk! Make sure the dark chocolate is in its raw, natural state. Since high levels of cacao can make chocolate bitter, you’ll have to try to find the one that has the highest level possible before you simply can’t take the bitterness. The apples are also good for lowering your chances of a heart attack, so both of them together improves your heart health greatly.
Now that you know which superfoods to eat together – go ahead and start eating for better health!
